Paycheck - movie review (January 2, 2004)

I saw this film over the New Year's holiday, and I loved it. I had no interest in seeing the film at all (the trailers did a horrible job of selling the picture, imo). I only really went because my husband wanted to go and then I found out it was based on a Philip K. Dick short story.

I don't care about Ben Affleck one way or the other, but I thought he was really good in this film. If he'd just stop talking about his personal life and make more films like this, I'd like him a heck of a lot more.

I thought everyone did a good job, and the writing was wonderful.

Geek moment - after seeing the film, I wanted to read the original short story, so I went home and looked through my Philip K. Dick short story collection and voila, there it was.

The short story was ok, but his writing style on that particular short story was a bit irritating. OK, stop saying the same thing over and over again - I get it. I really liked "Blade Runner" and "Minority Report" and didn't much like "Total Recall", but I think they did the best job in this film, to take just a tiny morsel from the original short story and turn it into a full-blown story.

A definite recommend.
